3 Misconceptions About Ductless AC

Ductless mini-split air conditioners are a great option for many Venice, Florida, homeowners. Unfortunately, ductless systems have been subjected to misinformation that can mislead homeowners, so we’re setting out to debunk these common myths.

Ductless Systems are Only Suitable for New-Home Constructions

While it’s true that many new homes are being built with ductless mini-split systems due to their zonal cooling capabilities, this doesn’t mean that existing homes and commercial buildings can’t accommodate one. In fact, upgrading an AC system to a ductless mini-split is easy. Ductless systems don’t require much space and they’re simpler to install, making them a great solution for just about every type of home.

Ductless Systems Circulate Bacteria

Since mini-split systems don’t have any ductwork, there’s a misconception that they collect and circulate bacteria. This simply isn’t true. Ductless mini-splits are designed with self-cleaning functions that effectively purify your home’s air. There’s also little chance of bacteria entering the inside of the unit due to its large filters.

When air enters a ductless mini-split unit, its filtering systems are designed to trap debris and spores, allowing only purified air to circulate through the house. Those filters do need to be removed and cleaned to eliminate the trapped debris, but bacteria and mold simply can’t grow inside the unit.

There’s No Energy Loss With a Ductless Mini-Split System

There are numerous benefits to a ductless system, but unfortunately, this one is a bit overstated. Ductless systems don’t feature any ductwork, so it’s common sense that energy isn’t lost through the ducts as with a conventional cooling system. Some thermal loss does occur, however, in the refrigerant lines running outside the home. While this may seem like a drawback, the reality is that even that small amount of thermal loss is significantly less than the energy loss associated with central forced air systems.
